The IBS Advantage

The IBS Approach

IBS has a unique and innovative approach to business education, that focuses on providing the right knowledge, imparting the right skills for enduring success in management careers, and shaping the right attitudes.

Knowledge

The right knowledge is clearly a critical success factor in business. The right knowledge implies relevant, contemporary and cutting-edge knowledge, in the theory and practice of a variety of core, functional and integrative subjects.  As practice precedes theory in business, equal emphasis is placed on concepts and applications. This blending of ideas and actions is achieved through various pedagogic techniques like lectures, case studies, business games, the summer internship program, the business research project, etc.

Skills

What matters most in business is what one can actually do. Doing well implies mastering and applying the skills - professional, personal and human - required for effective decision-making and execution. IBS trains the students in these skills through a series of soft-skills lab sessions scheduled over the duration of the program.

In addition, case-based learning at IBS helps students develop good analytical skills.

The Stipendiary Assignment Program is another unique skill-development program. Through this program, students have an opportunity to develop their communication, presentation, HR and marketing skills.

Attitudes

A critical attribute for success in life is cultivating the right attitudes like positive thinking, risk-taking, opportunity seeking, adapting to change, and achieving a proper balance between divergent goals of life. IBS helps students develop the right attitudes, and encourages them to grow into balanced and well-rounded individuals capable of taking up leadership positions.

• Projects: Students are encouraged to take up projects on contemporary topics as a part of their independent study. Faculty members will be available for providing necessary guidance and direction.

• Continuous Evaluation: At IBS, performance is assessed through a continuous evaluation process, and the appropriate feedback is provided, throughout the period of study. Students are evaluated on the basis of tests, home assignments, case analyses, seminars, projects, etc.

• Computing Facilities: Students are provided with laptop computers with the requisite software. IBS also provides the latest hardware and software infrastructure to cater to all the computing needs of the students and the training requirements of the information technology courses.

Internet connections through dedicated leased lines at every campus assist the students in their search for knowledge over the World Wide Web.

• Library: Libraries are major learning resource centers at IBS campuses. They are the places where all the information that is required for teaching, education and research is stored and retrieved. IBS libraries are equipped with latest software packages and have comprehensive collections of books, CDs, videos, Indian and international journals/magazines and research reports, relating to management and allied subjects.

IBS subscribes to leading academic online databases like EBSCO, Science Direct and Emerald Management Xtra, which are the storehouse of around 3000 leading journals in all areas of management. IBS also subscribes to industry databases like the World Development Indicators, the Cygnus MBA Knowledge Pack, and the CMIE databases (including Prowess, CapEx, Business Beacon and Industry Analysis Survey). In addition, IBS also subscribes to business and research oriented online databases like Reuters Business Insights, Marketline and the EIU ViewsWire.

Study Tour in Europe

Students of the two year MBA program are encouraged to go on a study tour in Europe, visiting the UK, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy during the summer of 2009. As a part of the tour, they will visit corporations, industrial establishments, stock exchanges, business houses, business schools and other organizations in these countries. More details on the study tour to Europe will be provided in the Student Handbook.

Student Handbook

Students will be supplied with a Student Handbook which contains all the rules and regulations of the program.
