The managers of Chrysler on their part were also confident about Nardelli's ability to revive the company's fortunes. However, Nardelli's $1 compensation gave rise to some skepticism, as many analysts refused to buy it on the reasoning that, as a private company, Chrysler was not required to tell the public how it spent its money, so there could well be more to the agreement than met the eye.
