The managers of Chrysler on their part were also confident about Nardelli's ability to revive the company's fortunes. "Bob has a proven track record of success and an unwavering focus on performance, and brings deep operational experience and a broad industry background to Chrysler. His background in operations will provide valuable knowledge as we continue Chrysler's turnaround," said LaSorda.9

However, Nardelli's $1 compensation gave rise to some skepticism, as many analysts refused to buy it on the reasoning that, as a private company, Chrysler was not required to tell the public how it spent its money, so there could well be more to the agreement than met the eye.
