In the third phase of its networking plan, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) placed orders for connecting 43 more of its centers using Wide Area Network or WAN. LIC is slowly adopting information technology (IT). It wants to shed its image of being a slow and sluggish company. It is even thinking of setting up a call center and offering Customer Relationship Management services to its customers. LIC, which has around 1.2 lakh employees, has discovered that by adopting IT, it can kill two birds with one stone: take care of its technology needs and, at the same time, gainfully employ its large workforce...
