Seattle India Insurance Company, a joint venture between Bangalore-based Krishtappa Bank and US-based Seattle Insurance Company, is headed by Mukesh Gupta. Gupta has considerable experience in the banking industry. Eric Stanton, a strategic consultant working for Seattle Insurance Company, had met Gupta once during his visit to India and was very impressed by him.

On his return to the US, Stanton informed the directors of Seattle Insurance Limited that Gupta would be the ideal person to head the joint venture. The directors unanimously decided that Gupta would head Seattle India Insurance Company.

Gupta initially hesitated to accept the post as he was more familiar with the banking industry, but Stanton persuaded him to accept the post, assuring him that all that he would be required to do as the head of Seattle India Insurance Company was to concentrate on the marketing aspects. The insurance operations, according to Stanton, would be taken care of by Seattle Insurance Company.

As competition in the industry increased, Seattle Insurance Company asked Seattle India Insurance Company to come up with innovative ideas for expanding the company's operations...
