Eastman Kodak Company's Journey

The journey of Kodak started long ago in 1880 when George Eastman (Eastman) started manufacturing photographic dry-plates in Rochester, US. Before getting into manufacturing, in 1879, he had invented an emulsion-coating machine which helped in the mass production of dry plates. The commercial production of the dry plates impressed family friend Henry Alvah Strong (Strong). Strong provided funding support and later, in 1881, Eastman and Strong formed a partnership under the name Eastman Dry Plate Company. This led to the launch of the 'Brownie camera', (a low-cost cardboard box camera) in 1900. It sold at US$1 and used a roll that cost 15 cents. By that time, Kodak's distribution outlets had been established in France, Germany, Italy, and other European countries. In 1905, the company went in for a public offering on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). In 1908, the company moved Far East and opened a manufacturing plant in Australia...
