"Development practitioners bring in their knowledge in public domain and connect with peers in government, NGOs, donor agencies, private sector, research institutes, and academia. The idea is to leverage India's knowledge pool so that no one has to reinvent the wheel."1

- Shubhangi Sharma, Resource Person, Education Community, UN Solution Exchange, in July 2009.

"It's [Solution Exchange] the use of technology with a social purpose" 2

- Monica Raina, National Coordinator, Solution Exchange in India, in July 2006.

Introduction

On February 13, 2009, Solution Exchange (SE) Indonesia was launched by the Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (Yudhoyono), at Jakarta at the United Nations (UN) presentation at the Coordination Forum for Aceh and Nias (CFAN)3 exhibition. SE was the knowledge management (KM) initiative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

In SE, members could interact through a virtual forum, raise issues, share problems, and seek answers to any queries they might had. The virtual communities in SE also exchanged and shared knowledge through interactive (face-to-face) forums such as workshops, meetings, and seminars.
