The origin of the aviation industry in India dated back to 1912 when the first flight took off from Karachi to Delhi, India. It was initiated by the Indian State Air Services in collaboration with Imperial Airways UK. Nonetheless, the real beginnings for the Aviation Industry in India were in 1932 when JRD Tata, Indian aviator, entrepreneur, chairman of Tata Group, started Tata Airline. In 1946, Tata Airlines was renamed Air India. In 1948, the Government of India (GoI) established a joint sector company, Air India International Ltd. in partnership with Air India. India had nine air transport companies transporting both cargo and passenger traffic. However, as per the Air Corporations Act, 1953, the GoI nationalized all the nine airline companies.
