On August 12, 2019, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Inc. (Popeyes) added a temporary item to its menu – Fried Chicken Sandwich. A week after the launch, its competitor, Chick-Fil-A , put out a tweet in which it took a jab at Popeyes’ new product while declaring its own sandwich as the original. This sparked a war of words on Twitter, with other fast food restaurants like Wendy’s wading into the battle.
