The Criticism

Though Michigan.gov was praised for the benefits it brought to users and the government, a few criticized its inability to provide adequate access to all services to every citizen. They alleged that the portal had created a 'digital divide' among users. Only those who had access to computers could avail of the portal's services, while it was of not of much help to those who had no such access...

The Future

e-Michigan became defunct in May 2002 after two years had elapsed. Engler announced a 'transition plan' in May 2002, to extend its functioning.

He also established a cross-agency team framework that brought teams from different state agencies together to work in close conjunction to ensure the continued smooth functioning of the portal. A centralized approach was followed to implement all e-governance activities in the state...
