A Note on the Indian Credit Card Industry

The Indian credit card industry grew from Rs. 1.6 trillion in FY15 to Rs. 6 trillion in FY19. The industry had a total of 74 credit card issuers in India. The number of credit cards issued increased from 21 million in FY15 to 47 million in FY19. The annual spend per card increased from Rs. 96,000 in FY15 to Rs. 144,000 in FY19 thanks to the increased use of credit cards for various purposes such as shopping, traveling, bill payments, medical-related expenses, and dining in restaurants.
