Introduction
On November 27, 2023, Amazon India, the Indian subsidiary of American e-commerce giant Amazon Inc., launched the Aurora program to leverage the talent of individuals with learning disabilities and provide employment to them. Liju Thomas (Thomas), Director–HR Operations at Amazon India, said, “‘Aurora’ is yet another initiative towards creating a truly inclusive and equitable workplace for people with learning disabilities.” This announcement was the continuation of various initiatives that Amazon had launched, beginning with a successful pilot program called ‘Silent Delivery Station’ that began in 2017 with four hearing impaired employees. Amazon partnered with Sol ARC, a Mumbai-based non-profit organization, and by 2023 had conducted vocational training for groups of individuals with autistic and intellectual disabilities in its delivery stations in Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Hyderabad..
