Introduction
In December 2024, Singapore-based ag-tech startup Polybee, announced the launch of drone-powered pollination to boost horticulture efficiency. The drones were expected to fulfill the function of bees – the natural pollinators , in areas where insects were scarce or absent. The Polybee drones’ automated pollination helped farmers grow plants and minimize the unpredictability of fertilization that was linked with traditional farming methods. The Polybee drones were capable of navigating through a greenhouse to pollinate flowers, especially those of strawberry and tomato. The Polybee drones were also equipped with artificial intelligence to provide insights into the yield, the size, weight, number of fruits on a plant, ripeness levels, expected harvest date of the produce, and more, through 3D imaging..
